Four colors of "Yeodo" - Joo Ho, HyunJun, Dong Woo, and Eui Jin
The tragic life of King Danjong of the Joseon Dynasty, with its tumultuous 600-year history, is well known to the Korean people. It is a dramatic story encompassing the usurpation of the throne, entangled with the royal family's ambition and the courtiers' power struggle. Naturally, the story has fascinated producers through the ages, leading to numerous TV series and movie adaptations.
However, "Yeodo" enriched the storyline with an additional fictional character, Lee Seong, the son of King Danjong. Baek Joo Ho, HyunJun Hur, Lee Eui Jin, and Jang Dong Woo take leading roles in this tragedy and are ready to take the audiences on a thrilling ride. Rolling Stone Korea met the four actors, each of whom radiates a unique charm in a single play.
[RSK] Hello, Joo Ho, HyunJun, Dong Woo, Eui Jin. It is lovely to meet you guys. Before proceeding with the interview, could you briefly introduce yourselves?
HyunJun: Hello everyone, I'm HyunJun, playing Lee Seong in "Yeodo." This is my first attempt at theater. I am thrilled to meet all my fans and get an an excellent photo shoot opportunity through Rolling Stone Korea.
DongWoo: Hello, Rolling Stone Korea subscribers. I'm Jang Dong Woo of INFINITE, playing King Danjong.
EuiJin: Hi, I'm Eui Jin and I, too, play the role of King Danjong in "Yeodo."
JooHo (Zuho): Hello, I'm an SF9 member and actor, JooHo. I play Lee Seong in "Yeodo."
T/n: real name: Baek Juho (λ°±μ£ΌνΈ) (λ°±μ£ΌνΈ = Baek Joo Ho)
[RSK] What efforts did you take to comprehend your role?
HyunJun: Lee Seong is the son of King Danjong, whose identity is concealed. He didn't know his identity while growing up. I think he faced an identity crisis when he was informed that King Sejo, whom he had known as his father, was in fact not his real father. So, I asked myself, "What if I were Lee Seong?" I tried to make my performance reflect my feelings had I been in that position.
EuiJin: King Danjong suffered hardships. He sacrificed and protected other people from a young age. I tried to portray his character from the historical images and my personal experiences.
[RSK] In your opinion, what is the message of "Yeodo?"
HyunJun: I think the play is about the unbreakable bond of family love. Lee Seong misses and follows the trail of his birth father, King Danjong, whom he had never met. King Danjong sacrifices himself to protect the woman he loves and his child. The royal concubine, Geunbin, of the Park family, takes care of Lee Seong like a son. I think "Yeodo" shows noble love for the family through these characters.
EuiJin: Sacrifice and love. Although we encounter these words casually, I wish "Yeodo" gives courage and hope to people.
ZuHo: I think of my family more dearly since acting in the play.
[RSK] What is the charm of the theater stage?
DongWoo: Instant communion that the actors communicate, understand together, and work in harmony.
EuiJin: Dynamic energy on the stage. The actors have to be true to themselves and constantly communicate with the audience.
